FSB detains suspected of spying for Ukraine on the border with Georgia

FSB officers detained a citizen of one of the CIS countries, who was allegedly involved in spying for Ukraine, who was trying to cross the border of North Ossetia and Georgia. This was reported by the regional department of the FSB, transmits Interfax.

“In the course of the operational-search activities of the FSB of Russia in North Ossetia-Alania, the illegal activities of a 28-year-old citizen of one of the CIS countries involved in espionage were revealed. At the crossing of the Upper Lars checkpoint, the suspect was detained,” they said.

The intelligence service noted that the correspondence stored in his mobile phone indicates that he provided the Ukrainian side with photos and videos of Russian military equipment. A case was initiated against him under article 276 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (espionage).

At the end of December, the FSB informed about the detention of a 54-year-old resident of the Kherson region, who transmitted information to the Ukrainian side about the deployment of the Russian army and its routes.

On December 23, the FSB also delayed six Russians from the Perm Territory, the Jewish Autonomous Region and the Rostov Region. According to the intelligence service, the detainees participated in the preparation of terrorist attacks and sabotage, as well as in the collection and transfer of secret information to Ukraine. In particular, one of them transmitted data on the location of Russian troops and information about the movement of equipment, which is why Russian positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine launched a missile attack from the MLRS HIMARS. A criminal case on treason (Article 275) and espionage (Article 276) was initiated against the detainees, they were taken into custody.
