FSB detains man who blew up gas pipeline in Crimea

FSB officers detained a Russian citizen who, in June, on the instructions of the Ukrainian special services, blew up a gas pipeline in the Crimean village of Koreiz. This was reported in the press service of the department.

“The criminal activity of a Russian citizen born in 1980, who was involved in the commission of a sabotage and terrorist act at the energy infrastructure facility of the Republic of Crimea on the instructions of the Ukrainian special services, was suppressed,” the statement said (cit. according to RIA Novosti).

According to the FSB, the gas pipeline was blown up on June 23. The detainee committed the crime using an improvised explosive device, which was passed to him through a hiding place. It is specified that the man was recruited in June 2022 in Pavlograd, Dnepropetrovsk region, where he underwent reconnaissance and sabotage training. After that, he was sent to the Crimea.

A criminal case was initiated against the citizen on the fact of a terrorist attack (part 1 of article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and on the fact of illegal possession of explosive devices (part 1 of article 222.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The detainee confessed. The maximum punishment under the article on a terrorist attack provides for imprisonment for up to 20 years.

June 23 in Crimea reported about damage to a gas pipeline in the coastal village of Koreiz southwest of Yalta. The reasons for the incident were not specified. As a result, about 500 subscribers were left without gas. During the day, the pipeline was restored.
