Poirot in Canadian, spies in the CIA and the return of Stallone: ​​Kommersant Style is about new streaming that deserves attention.

“Three Pines”

Of course, it is impossible to interrupt the public’s love for Detective Hercule Poirot, but Chief Inspector Armand Gamache has a serious chance of success. Especially performed by the magnificent Alfred Molina, the star of “Frida”, “Chocolate” and more. Gamache does not have a famously twisted mustache, but there is a sea of ​​\u200b\u200bcharm, a goatee, a difficult past and a nose for murder. And there are, perhaps, too many of them in the Canadian town of Three Pines (literally – Trehsosensk).

Detectives about Inspector Gamache have repeatedly been included in the New York Times bestseller rankings, and their author Louise Penny won the Agatha Christie Award five times. Penny advised the creators of Three Pines, although the series is not a direct adaptation of her novels, but rather a free adaptation. But all the main points are preserved: philosophical dialogues, bright secondary characters (which is worth one Lady with a goose) and elements of a mystical thriller.

In addition to the murders and existential issues, the series has another major theme: the oppression of the natives of Canada, an issue about which viewers outside the country know little. Gamache investigates the murders and disappearances of Indian girls, the Three Pines police officer is Isabelle Lacoste, played by an actress from the Kaina tribe. All this takes Three Pines beyond the scope of an ordinary detective story.

“Blackmail”

What can Owen Hendrix, a freshly graduated good guy, look forward to in his early days in the CIA legal department? Certainly not that his life will suddenly turn into a James Bond movie with car chases, shootouts, the Russian mafia, European races and damn attractive spies. No one is going to help Owen: he will have to rely only on luck and his own high, somewhat outdated moral principles, which his colleagues laugh at.

Watching Owen (played by the charming Noah Centineo) is a pleasure, however, as well as for secondary characters: from the paranoid Janus, Owen’s colleague in the CIA, to a drug dealer who studies psychology in his spare time. The showrunners obviously know the world of Washington officials well and are absolutely ruthless towards them: there are no heroes in the series (except for Owen) – only gossips, schemers and procrastinators.

“Blackmail” manages to balance on the verge between a spy saga and a comedy, while touching on topics that are sore for modern society – drug addiction, violence against women. And there are a lot of Easter eggs in the series – for example, Oksimiron’s song “The City Under the Sole”. And by the way, the first two episodes of The Recruit were directed by Bourne director Doug Liman.

“King of Tulsa”

What will happen to the capo of the New York mafia, who spent a quarter of a century behind bars, and then received a link to Oklahoma instead of a reward from the boss? Dwight Manfredi, 75, will have to rebuild his empire and learn how to use Uber and other innovations as the world has changed during his time in prison.

“King of Tulsa” is full of gangster romance, rude humor, dashing plot twists, but most importantly, of course, the excellent performance of Sylvester Stallone, for which the series was created. King of Tulsa has a powerful team of showrunners: Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan and crime guru Terence Winter, who gave us The Sopranos and Boardwalk Empire. “King of Tulsa” is by no means a dull saga about the return of a retiree and not a parody of a gangster movie. This is a serious movie about the conflict of generations and values, family dramas and the passing era. But, of course, not without bikes, gold rings and street racing.
