French Prime Minister announces increase in retirement age bypassing Parliament

French Prime Minister Elisabeth Born, to the cries of indignant deputies of the National Assembly, announced that the government takes responsibility and introduces a law to raise the retirement age from 62 to 64 without a vote in parliament.
“This reform is necessary,” she said, adding that she would therefore not risk the future of the pension system and allow many hours of debate.
She recalled that this reform is the result of a compromise agreed by the legislators of both houses of parliament, so the government takes responsibility for this law in accordance with Article 49.3.
After that, the head of the National Assembly, Yael Braun-Pivé, announced that “the law is considered adopted from now on.”
Following the leader of the French right, Marine Le Pen said that the French prime minister should resign, as her actions are a slap in the face of democracy. The leader of the French Communist Party also announced his readiness to support a vote of no confidence in the government.
