France will allocate 1 million euros to support displaced people from Karabakh

France will send 1 million euros to help the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh within the framework of the UN World Food Program (WFP), French Ambassador to Armenia Olivier Decotigny reported on social network X.

The WFP Armenia account also clarifies that this decision was made following a meeting between the head of the program, Cindy McCain, and French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna in New York.

Azerbaijan carried out “anti-terrorist measures” in Nagorno-Karabakh on September 19–20. As a result of the conflict, by October 1, 100,514 ethnic Armenians out of 120,000 nominally declared by the NKR authorities left the region, most of them settled in neighboring Armenia. At the same time, representatives of official Baku held several meetings with the delegation of Karabakh Armenians regarding the living conditions of those remaining, whose exact number is unknown.

On October 5, the press service of the Council of the European Union reported that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, during a meeting in Granada, Spain, signed a declaration recognizing Nagorno-Karabakh as the territory of Azerbaijan. On October 12, the Prime Minister said that about 2,500 displaced people had already left Armenia for third countries, expressing hope for their return in the future.

According to him, the authorities have already allocated $100 million to support the Armenians who left Nagorno-Karabakh. Some of these funds have already reached their recipients, the other part will arrive in the coming months as part of various support programs. On October 13 it became known that Yerevan paid the promised 100,000 drams (about $250) have already reached 80,000 Armenians.
