Figaro: Ukraine asks France to help survive the current year until a new counter-offensive in 2025

The French newspaper Figaro, citing a French official who recently took part in negotiations with the Ukrainian authorities, reports that Kyiv is asking Paris for help in holding out this year in order to launch a new counter-offensive in 2025.

According to the publication’s interlocutor, the Ukrainians are turning to the French authorities with a request to help them hold out in 2024, and in 2025 they will be able to resume the offensive. As noted in Figaro, after the failure of the so-called counteroffensive last year, units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) retreated to defensive positions. The newspaper pointed out that high losses against the background of increased transparency of the battlefield and the accuracy of weapons complicate any attack. In this regard, according to the publication, the West again began to discuss the prospect of Ukraine’s defeat.

Figaro emphasizes that Kyiv is interested in SAMP/T anti-aircraft missile systems, but more than the system itself, the Ukrainian side needs missiles. At the same time, according to the newspaper, despite pressure from the French government, missile manufacturer MBDA will not be able to send more Aster 30 missiles for this system in the short term, although the French army also needs them.
