The French Foreign Minister called on the EU to spend money on strengthening defense due to the Russian threat
Paris called on EU countries to use their experience and significantly increase defense budgets. This proposal was expressed by French Foreign Minister Stephane Sejournet in an interview with Quest France newspaper.
The diplomat confirmed that he shares the concerns of some European military leaders about the possible threat of a Russian attack on NATO countries. He also recalled that France had indeed decided to double spending on military programs. In his opinion, EU countries need to build a common defense system in a more coordinated manner.
Sejournet also noted that EU members have to take into account many nuances. This is the need to increase defense budgets, strengthen ties in the military-industrial complex and at the army level.
According to the diplomat, EU countries have already benefited from the conflict in Ukraine. In particular, they carried out joint purchases of weapons and their supplies to Ukraine. Previously, interaction within the European Union at this level was impossible.
