French Foreign Ministry hopes for a new round of consultations on Ukraine before the G20 summit

Paris believes that the next round of consultations on a peaceful settlement in Ukraine may be held before the G20 summit in India in September, Bloomberg reports, citing a senior French Foreign Ministry official.

“None of the countries of the ‘Global South’ represented in Jeddah have requested the presence of the Russian Federation at the next round of negotiations,” an unnamed agency source said. At the same time, the diplomat expressed the wish that the new round would take place before the summit of the G20 leaders in New Delhi in September.

A French Foreign Ministry spokesman told the agency that China had taken a “constructive stance” in the talks, insisting on a ceasefire in Ukraine. But the French side explained to China that it would be unacceptable if Russia remains “in the positions it now occupies in Ukraine,” a representative of the French Foreign Ministry added some details of the ongoing talks on Ukraine in Jeddah.

The G20 summit in India will be held on September 9-10.

Saudi Arabia is holding consultations around a peaceful settlement in Ukraine, in which representatives of about 40 states take part.
