France announced its readiness to supply gas to Germany

France is ready to provide gas supplies to Germany, Lawrence Boone, Secretary of State for European Affairs at the country’s Foreign Ministry, said on France 2 TV channel.

“Germany supplies us with electricity because we need it, and we are committed to supplying it with gas,” said Boon (quote according to TASS). According to her, this is an example of “European solidarity”.

At the same time, the Secretary of State noted that the EU countries intend to coordinate actions to reduce and optimize energy consumption.

On the eve of the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell declaredthat Europe will face serious problems in the short term due to sanctions against Russia. He noted rising gas prices, but said the EU must be prepared to “pay the price for freedom.” According to him, the economic difficulties that Europe is currently experiencing are “the biggest crisis that has ever been here.”

After the start of the special operation in Ukraine, Western countries imposed large-scale sanctions against Russia, which, among other things, affected the supply of energy resources. So, in early June, the EU introduced a partial embargo on Russian oil, and on August 10, an embargo on the purchase of coal from Russia began to operate. European countries are also looking for ways to abandon Russian gas.

As part of the fight against the energy crisis and the prevention of possible difficulties with gas supply this winter, the EU countries decided to save energy and reduce their consumption by 7-15%. Under the plan, Germany, for example, called on households and companies to reduce gas consumption by 20%.
