FP: Biden did not convince Americans of the need to help Ukraine

US President Joe Biden has not convinced the country of the need to help Ukraine, and his further attempts can only worsen the situation, columnists Emma Ashford and Matthew Kroenig write in their article for Foreign Policy magazine.
They note that even those who vote for the US Democratic Party do not approve of Biden’s ideas about Ukraine. According to the authors, Biden does not even explain to his electorate why it should be important for them to help Ukraine.
“He said that if Putin is not stopped in Ukraine, then he will go on to Poland. If a person doesn’t care about Ukraine, then what does he care about Poland?” writes Ashford.
Kroenig notes that Biden’s electorate is unlikely to like his intention to link aid to Ukraine with the conflict in the Middle East, but they are divided on the issue of the confrontation in Gaza.
Earlier, former adviser to Presidents Bush Jr. and Trump, Christian Wheaton, said that the failure of the Ukrainian counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine would be a blow to Biden’s rating. In an article for the National Interest magazine, he expressed the view that the US foreign policy under Biden became a failure, and from the very beginning, when the Americans had to leave Afghanistan in disgrace. Wheaton noted that this event immediately had a negative impact on Biden’s popularity.
The politician also noted the rapidly declining support for Ukraine from the US population. He said that the United States considers China and Iran, not Russia, to be the main threat. At the same time, he said, American voters will be even more disappointed in Biden “when they notice that Washington is more worried about Ukraine’s borders than about its own.
