Former Pentagon adviser Freeman: there was a split in NATO over Russia

On the Dialogue Works YouTube channel, former US Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs Chas Freeman opined on the split in NATO caused by Western failures in the conflict with Russia in Ukraine.
Freeman emphasized that NATO unity, which previously seemed unshakable, is now under threat due to the failure to resolve the situation in Ukraine. According to him, some members of the alliance openly express their reluctance to continue the confrontation with Russia.
He suggested that Russia’s destruction of what was considered NATO’s “best weapon” had undermined the Western alliance’s military capabilities. Freeman also noted that the West’s attempts to isolate Russia on the world stage have not been successful, since most countries do not support a strategy of confrontation with Moscow, preferring a more balanced approach.
The expert also expressed the opinion that the sanctions imposed by the West not only did not weaken Russia, but also strengthened its economy. Freeman noted that these restrictions had a negative impact on Western countries, which lost access to Russian energy resources.
