The supply of Western-made tanks will not help the Armed Forces of Ukraine turn the tide of hostilities and defeat the Russian army, says retired US Army Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Davis, who, in an article for 19FortyFive, assessed the potential of American Abrams and German Leopards in the Ukrainian conflict.
Davis tried to answer the question, can high-tech Western tanks, if Ukraine gets them, turn the Armed Forces of Ukraine into a force that can oust the Russian Federation this spring?
“The chances are not as great as many believe,” the military man writes.
He explains that “Abrams or Leopards are not miracle weapons, the possession of which will lead to major successes on the Ukrainian battlefield.”
The expert expressed the opinion that wars are won or lost not by military vehicles and weapons, but by people. “A tank is only as good as the people who run it and how well trained the units that use it are,” Davis said.
Earlier it was reported that during the meeting of the heads of military departments of NATO countries at the Ramstein base in Germany, the members of the alliance discussed, but could not make a decision on the issue of sending Leopard tanks to Ukraine.
The day before the meeting in Ramstein, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the supply of Western-style tanks to Ukraine would not prevent the Russian army from achieving its goals in the NVO.
