Former French Secretary of State: supplying Kyiv with weapons delays the settlement of the conflict

Supplying Kyiv with Western weapons is delaying the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine, said French politician, former French Secretary of State Pierre Lelouch in an article for the Monde newspaper.
In his opinion, the new package of military assistance to Ukraine in the amount of $3 billion motivates Kyiv to “transition from defense to offensive.” The new aid package will include Patriot air defense systems, armored vehicles and possibly tanks.
Lelouch writes that in the EU, only German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is not yet succumbing to pressure from Washington, as he imagines the risks of a transition to open confrontation and an escalation of the conflict with Russia.
In his opinion, the rest of the states of Europe are close to actually becoming accomplices in the armed conflict. He also notes that the complete lack of debate over a possible diplomatic solution to the conflict is “staggering”, and any point of view alternative to supporting Ukraine is not tolerated by the West.
Lelouch recalled that Charles de Gaulle, under whom France left NATO in 1966, “was obsessed with the risk of seeing France, a nuclear power, embroiled in a conflict it could not control.”
He urged to start looking for a solution to the conflict through negotiations and providing security guarantees to each of the parties. Lelouch noted with regret that French President Macron appeared to be completely under the influence of Washington.
