Former first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Uzbek SSR Rafik Nishanov dies

At the age of 96, the former first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Uzbek SSR, ex-chairman of the Council of Nationalities of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR Rafik Nishanov died. This was reported by well-known Uzbek journalist Rakhimjon Sultanov.
According to Sultanov, since 1989, Rafik Nishanov lived in Moscow, but died abroad. The family is now deciding where the Soviet politician will be buried. Nishanov’s wife is buried in Geneva, and perhaps he will be buried next to her.
Recall that Nishanov was also the USSR ambassador to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Republic of Maldives, and the Republic of Sri Lanka. Also during the year, he served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, and then became chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the Uzbek SSR.
He held the post of head of the Communist Party of the Republic from January 12, 1988 to June 23, 1989.
