Former Chairman of Armenian Parliament Sahakyan dies

Galust Sahakyan, the 10th Chairman of the National Assembly of Armenia, died at the age of 74. He held this post from April 29, 2014 to May 18, 2017.
As informs “Sputnik of Armenia”, citing its own sources, in recent years, the politician was seriously ill and practically did not engage in active work. In recent months, he has been undergoing treatment in Germany.
Sahakyan stood at the origins of the creation of the “Republic” party. In the mid-90s, he was a deputy from this party in the Armenian parliament. In the early 2000s, he led the Unity faction in parliament, and then was the head of the faction of the Republican Party of Armenia, led by the third president of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan.
