Former British Prime Minister David Cameron has become the country’s Foreign Secretary. This is stated on the page of the Prime Minister of the Kingdom Rishi Sunak in X.
“David Cameron has been appointed Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs,” the statement said.
Cameron succeeds James Cleverley, who was appointed UK Home Secretary earlier today. Suella Braverman, who served as head of the kingdom’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, was fired.
The reasons for the personnel changes are not reported. As Sky News notes, last week Barverman published an article in which she accused the police of “playing favorites” by criticizing the Metropolitan Police’s handling of the controversial Palestinian march on Armistice Day. After this, the minister was accused of undermining public trust in the police, Sunak was forced to remove her from her post, the TV channel claims.
David Cameron served as Prime Minister of Great Britain from 2010 to 2016. During his time in office, discussions began about Britain’s exit from the European Union. In 2015, the Conservatives introduced a bill into parliament calling for a referendum on the issue. According to the results of the vote held on June 23, 2016, 51.9% of Britons supported Brexit.
Cameron himself advocated maintaining Britain’s membership in the EU and reforming it. The day after the referendum results were announced, Cameron announced his resignation.
