Foreign Ministry responded to information about pushing Ukraine to more active hostilities

The US attempt to put pressure on Ukraine so that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are more active on the battlefield confirms their intention to wage a “war to the last Ukrainian”, stated Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.

“What is called “the war of the West against Russia to the last Ukrainian”. American neo-liberals have destroyed Ukraine and are exterminating the Ukrainian people. American hegemonic ambitions lead to colossal sacrifices,” she wrote on her Telegram channel.

Earlier, The Washington Post reported that the administration of US President Joe Biden pushes Ukraine in the intensification of hostilities, because it is feared that in the future it will be increasingly difficult for Kyiv to obtain the consent of Congress for the supply of new weapons. The White House believes that the Armed Forces of Ukraine need to take control of as many territories as possible before sitting down at the negotiating table.

Earlier in February, a group of US congressmen submitted a resolution demanding that Joe Biden stop supply of military aid to Ukraine and an appeal to all parties to the conflict to reach a peace agreement. According to the text of the resolution, since the beginning of the Russian special operation on February 24, 2022, the United States has sent financial, military and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine totaling over $110 billion, including $27.4 billion in security assistance. In total, 11 congressmen from the Republican Party signed the resolution.

The Russian authorities have repeatedly criticized the supply of Western weapons to Kyiv. In particular, Zakharova previously warned that pumping weapons into Ukraine would bring NATO closer to the danger point of a direct military clash with Russia. And Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned that the supply of long-range weapons would only expand the geography of the special operation. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov, in turn, called the conflict in Ukraine ascending in a spiral. Russian President Vladimir Putin, in December 2022, said that the countries of the West turned Ukraine into a colony and use the people of this country as cannon fodder.
