Russia will react preemptively to the strengthening of NATO in the Arctic. This was stated by Ambassador at Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nikolai Korchunov. He noted that military-political tension had arisen in the region due to the unconstructive line of the United States and other NATO countries.
The diplomat believes that the Alliance has set a course for strengthening its own security in these latitudes. For this purpose, Finland was accepted into NATO and Sweden is going to be accepted. Therefore, Moscow reserves the right to proactively respond to outgoing calls and threats. Korchunov noted that the original course towards good-neighborly interaction in the Arctic is being maintained.
Let us remind you that Finland joined NATO on April 4 this year. Sweden has also applied to join. But it hasn’t been approved yet. The Swedes are negotiating with the Turks on this issue. Ankara asks in return to facilitate Turkey’s accession to the EU.
