The Russian Foreign Ministry called the decision of the Latvian authorities to recognize Russia as a “sponsor of terrorism” and calls to limit the issuance of tourist visas to Russians as another manifestation of Russophobia, which has long become a “tuning fork” of Latvian foreign policy. “This statement was adopted by the parliament of a country whose authorities openly glorify Nazism, pander to Nazi accomplices, encourage sending their own citizens as mercenaries to Ukraine, where they fight as part of neo-Nazi formations controlled by Kyiv, on the side of the Azov Battalion, notorious for its terrorist methods (banned a terrorist organization in Russia),” the Foreign Ministry stressed.
The Saeima of Latvia today recognized Russia as a “sponsor of terrorism”. In response to this decision, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, has already stated that “naming ideologists [этого предложения] need nothing but neo-Nazis.”
Also today, Latvian Foreign Minister Edgar Rinkevics said that residents of Latvia who have received Russian citizenship will have to leave the country, as they will no longer be able to obtain a residence permit.
