Foreign goods increased their share in the consumer market

After analyzing the data of the statistical form, with the help of which legal entities engaged in wholesale trade (with the exception of micro-enterprises) report to Rosstat, analysts of the audit and consulting network revealed that in 2022 the share of imports in monetary terms in the turnover of basic consumer goods increased relative to 2021. This happened despite the general decline in imports of foreign products to Russia. According to the Federal Customs Service, in general, the value of imports to the Russian Federation in 2022 fell by 11.7% to $259.1 billion (see Kommersant on March 14).
Against this background, according to the calculations of FinExpertiza analysts, over the year, the share of imports in the wholesale turnover of food products (including alcohol and tobacco products) increased by 4.1 percentage points (pp) to 18.7%; household appliances (TVs, refrigerators, washing machines, etc.) — by 1.7 p.p., up to 28.7%; electronics (computers and peripheral devices for them, telephones, components) — by 4.8 p.p., up to 74.1%; furniture, lighting fixtures and carpet products — by 13.5 p.p., up to 47.2%.
In the regional food markets, imports are dominated by Smolensk (72.5%), Ryazan (59%), Kurgan (56.3%), Magadan (50%) regions. Almost only foreign household appliances are sold by wholesale enterprises of Buryatia (98%), Ulyanovsk (97.5%) and Smolensk (96.7%) regions, Primorsky Territory (94%) and Altai Territory (90%). The largest share of imported electronics is in Primorsky Krai (99.8%), Sevastopol (99%), Lipetsk Region (91.1%), Udmurtia (89.4%) and St. Petersburg (85.1%). Wholesalers of the Belgorod and Amur regions (100% each), Tver (84.9%), Sverdlovsk (84.3%) and Pskov (83.7%) regions reported on the maximum share of imported furniture.
Along with this, the share of foreign products in 2022 decreased in the pharmaceutical market (by 18 p.p., to 25.7% in total turnover), as well as in the perfumery and cosmetics sector (by 4.4 p.p., to 32 .7%). The share of imports in wholesale sales of clothing and footwear did not actually change over the year (minus 0.2 percentage points, 40%), with an obvious change in the geography of suppliers.
