The House of Representatives of the US Congress today failed to elect a speaker the first time. This is the first such case in the last 100 years.
Now the lower house of the American Parliament is to conduct a new vote. Republicans currently have a majority in the House of Representatives. The Republican Party is represented by 222 deputies. Another 212 deputies represent the Democratic Party, to which US President Joe Biden belongs.
Kevin McCarthy of the Republican Party is currently considered the most likely candidate for Speaker of Congress. But the politician had previously predicted that there would be a “battle” for the speakership. As it turned out, he was right.
