Flight tests of the Sarmat missile system were successfully carried out, the press service of the Ministry of Defense reports with reference to the commander of the Strategic Missile Forces (RVSN) Sergei Karakaev.
According to Karakaev, active re-equipment of the Strategic Missile Forces with modern missile systems continues. Flight tests of the Sarmat missile system were successfully carried out.
“The practical development of new methods of maneuvering missile regiments has been completed. In the 2022 academic year, more than 550 marches were made, more than 50% of which were at night,” Karakaev said.
The first launch of the Sarmat rocket was carried out from the Plesetsk cosmodrome in the Arkhangelsk region on April 20. It was successful, the design characteristics were confirmed at all stages of the missile’s flight, the RF Ministry of Defense reported.
On June 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that the Russian troops would make much wider use of robotics, the latest control and reconnaissance equipment, drones, and actively develop weapons systems based on new physical principles (laser, electromagnetic weapons, etc.). According to him, in 2022 it is planned to put the first heavy intercontinental ballistic missile “Sarmat” on combat duty, and the S-500 air and missile defense systems have already begun to enter the troops.
