Finland granted only one Turkish extradition request in 2022

Finland granted Turkey’s request for extradition in October 2022, STT news agency reported, citing the Finnish Ministry of Justice. Another request is reportedly pending. Between 2019 and 2022, Helsinki extradited three people to Ankara, the report says.
The man extradited to Turkey in October 2022, as specified in the information, was convicted in his homeland for robbery.
In November last year, the Finnish side made a negative decision on the request for extradition. At the end of 2022, Turkey sent Finland a new request, but it is still under consideration and it is not known when and in whose favor the corresponding decision will be made.
Since May 2022, Turkey directly links the decision of submitted requests for the extradition of citizens in its favor with the approval of Finland’s entry into NATO. Finland and Sweden, as you know, have expressed a desire to become members of the bloc and have applied to join the North Atlantic Alliance. The application must be approved by all NATO members, including Turkey.
