The authorities of Finland and Estonia let three planes from Russia into their airspace so that they would not fall into a thunderstorm front, the Federal Air Transport Agency said. The department thanked the “competent authorities” of both European countries for their assistance.

Profile Telegram channel “Aviatorshchina” specified that on the night of August 17, “a storm front for several minutes completely blocked the only corridor for flying to Kaliningrad over the neutral waters of the Gulf of Finland.” Bad weather prevented the following aircraft: Airbus A321neo “Ural Airlines” (flying from Kaliningrad to Moscow), Airbus A319 “Russia” (flying from St. Petersburg to Kaliningrad) and Boeing 737 Nordwind (flying from Kaliningrad to Samara). The board of the Rossiya airline was given permission to enter its airspace by Estonia, and the planes of Ural Airlines and Nordwind were given permission by Finland.
The press service of the Federal Air Transport Agency stressed that the Finnish and Estonian aviation services in full “ensure the safe maintenance of Russian aircraft.”
The agency assured that, guided by the principles of mutual assistance, it is ready to ensure the safe air traffic of foreign aircraft in the airspace of Russia.
The EU countries completely closed their skies to Russian aircraft after the start of the military conflict in Ukraine. Russia responded with similar measures.
