In the Philippines, skirmishes took place between militants of the Islamic State (the organization is banned in the Russian Federation) and security forces. They started with a jihadist ambush in the Maragong district in the province of South Lanao, the Directorate 4 Telegram channel writes.
There, on February 4, 2023, a group of militants numbering about ten people, led by Fakharudin Hajisatar, positioned themselves on both sides of a country road in order to attack the military. Having waited for the car of the Marines of the Armed Forces of the Philippines to appear on the road, the terrorists opened fire on it and then disappeared. At the same time, a sergeant of the Philippine Armed Forces was killed, two more sergeants and a corporal were injured. The military, together with the police, organized the persecution of a group of militants, which, according to the security forces, continues to this day.
Hajisatar led the grouping of the Maute brothers after the death of its next leader. The Islamic State itself released photographs of the motorcycle and weapons seized by the militants in the skirmish.
Less successful for the terrorists ended in a clash on February 5, 2023 on the borders of the municipalities of Parang and Maimbung in the province of Sulu. Police officers tried to detain one of the IS militants, but ran into resistance. During a long skirmish, seven IS militants were eliminated, two were detained. The jihadist whom the police came to detain was able to escape. Also injured were two civilians, including a child.
