Russian fighters “landed” spy drones and kamikazes
Russian electronic warfare and air defense specialists in the Northern Military District managed to obtain several valuable trophies in the form of new drones of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Senator Dmitry Rogozin announced this; he published photos of “grounded” drones. An expert in the field of unmanned systems Denis Fedutinov was able to identify Ukrainian drones from photographs.
Having posted a photo of drones on his channel, Dmitry Rogozin wrote that our fighters shot down or landed them, “while retaining the opportunity to understand the communication and control system.”
“In the photo of Dmitry Rogozin,” Denis Fedutinov noted, “you can see the wreckage of a light-class aircraft-type unmanned aerial vehicle, which in size is probably close to the Russian Orlan-10 drone.”
According to the expert, this is a device with a normal aerodynamic design with a high-mounted wing and a single-fin tail. The power plant probably includes one engine located in the bow that rotates the tractor propeller, Fedutinov noted.
“The scheme used is quite common,” he said. – In Ukraine, even before the start of our special military operation, there were several models of unmanned aerial vehicles using this scheme. Among them we can, for example, mention the Anser unmanned aerial vehicle, which in appearance was very similar to the same Orlan-10. However, in more than two years since the beginning of the Northeast Military District, the fleet of drones used by Ukraine has expanded significantly both in terms of quantity and type.
Based on the properties of existing analogues, the expert suggested that the downed or landed Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicle “was used for specific reconnaissance tasks, including, possibly, at night.”
“However, the implementation of other functions is not excluded, for example, radio-electronic or radio-technical reconnaissance, as well as the kamikaze option,” he concluded.
