The Federal Customs Service (FCS) of Russia is partially resuming the publication of foreign trade customs statistics data, the report says. message on the website of the department.
“The Federal Customs Service of Russia has published the value of exports and imports of the Russian Federation for 2022 on the official website in the “Customs statistics” section,” the report says.
The FCS added that further the cost volumes of exports and imports by commodity groups will be published every month on the 40th day after the end of the reporting period on an accrual basis.
From the data published by the agency, it follows that foreign trade turnover for 2022 increased by 8.1% compared to 2021 and amounted to $850.5 billion. Exports increased by 19.9% to $591.5 billion, and imports – decreased by 11.7%, amounting to $259 billion.
The Federal Customs Service decided to temporarily suspend the publication of statistics on Russia’s imports and exports in April last year. Head of Department Vladimir Bulavin explained then this step is necessary to avoid “incorrect estimates, speculations and inconsistencies in terms of import deliveries.” The FCS published the latest data on imports and exports for January 2022.
The decision of the Federal Customs Service was preceded by the introduction of a parallel import mechanism from the end of March 2022, which involves the importation of original goods into the country without the permission of the copyright holder or manufacturer. In September, the mechanism was extended until 2023.
In 2022, a number of countries introduced restrictions on conducting foreign trade operations with Russian foreign economic activity participants. A fairly large list of goods fell under the sanctions – from electronics to food. The US and EU have established a total ban on the sale, supply, transfer or export of these goods or technologies to any person or entity in Russia or for use in Russia.
