Prices for rebar in Russia stopped growing in May, and a slight decrease was recorded at the end of the month. This assessment was given by the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS), writes TASS.
“Currently, the service records a slight decrease in prices for rebar both from manufacturers and metal traders,” the report says. It is specified that the increase in prices for these products was recorded from January to April of this year.
The Federal Antimonopoly Service also informed the largest producers about the inadmissibility of economically unjustified price increases and the need to provide priority to the domestic market, the press service noted. The service promised to continue monitoring prices in the building materials markets.
In March, the Ministry of Construction sent appeal to the Federal Antimonopoly Service with a complaint about the increase in prices for rebar. The Minister of Construction, Housing and Communal Services Irek Fayzullin then said that the Ministry of Construction “is not satisfied today with the increase in the price of metal, for rebar, which has occurred in our country in the past three weeks.”
The source of Vedomosti associated this dynamics “exclusively with an increase in the cost of production due to a seasonal increase in prices for ferrous scrap.” Industry agency Metals & Mining Intelligence (MMI) noted that since the beginning of 2022, rebar prices in the Russian market have increased by 26%.
