Farewell ceremony for the first President of the Republic Mikhail Nikolaev began in Yakutsk

In Yakutsk, at the State Theater of Opera and Ballet named after D. K. Sivtsev-Suorun Omolloon, a funeral ceremony of farewell to Mikhail Nikolaev, the first president of Yakutia, took place. The event was attended by representatives of the authorities, the public and residents of Yakutia. The funeral service will continue until 20:00 local time.
Olga Balabkina, Deputy Prime Minister of Yakutia, noted that Mikhail Nikolaev was an outstanding personality not only at the Russian but also at the international level. The role of his team during the period of critical events was aimed at strengthening the country and the foundations of Russian statehood. She also noted that under his leadership, the foundations of socio-economic development were laid and priorities were identified, which continue to this day.
Irina Lyubimova, Minister of Education and Science of Yakutia, stressed that Mikhail Nikolaev made a huge contribution to the development of the education system in the region. Under his leadership, a law on education was adopted, new types of schools, lyceums and gymnasiums were created. For the first time, a targeted program for the development of education was developed, aimed at supporting talented children of the republic.
Palmira Petrova, former head of the NEFU Medical Institute, noted the significant contribution of Mikhail Nikolaev to the development of the healthcare system and higher medical education in the region. Under his leadership, the National Center of Medicine and the Perinatal Center were built, which contributed to the development of medical education.
The funeral of Mikhail Nikolaev will take place on August 8 in his native village of Oktemtsy. The funeral ceremony of farewell took place on August 6 in Moscow, at the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) under the President of the Russian Federation.
Mikhail Nikolaev was the first president of Yakutia from January 1992 to January 2002.
