Large exporters began to return the overpayment of income tax advances transferred to the budget system for the III quarter. This was reported to Vedomosti by two sources close to the government, and financial consultants also know about the companies’ requests for a refund. Overpayments arose due to a relatively sharp decline in commodity prices in July-September. Income tax is transferred in advance, in particular, in the III quarter, companies paid based on the April-June tax base.
According to an interlocutor close to the government, the largest overpayments arose from Gazprom and a number of metallurgical companies. Which ones, he did not say. Another source, also close to the Cabinet, clarified that the return of overpayment on income tax is a feature of this year. According to him, as a rule, companies do not apply for compensation from the budget, since fluctuations are smoothed out for a long time: in some periods, on the contrary, there is an underpayment, which is reimbursed from previously overpaid taxes. This year, the situation is different, primarily because of the unprecedented amounts of overpayment that have arisen due to the extremely favorable external situation, which is unlikely to happen again in the near future, Vedomosti’s interlocutor specified.
