Senior Lecturer, Department of Oceanology, Faculty of Geography, Lomonosov Moscow State University M.V. Lomonosov Sergei Mukhametov said that fighting dolphins could be used to protect the Sevastopol Bay from saboteurs under water.
According to him, fighting dolphins are engaged in anti-sabotage work, they have been involved in the search for various saboteurs for a long time. Their training began in the late 60s in the USA and the USSR.
“They can guard the entrance to the Sevastopol Bay,” Mukhametov said.
He clarified that only Black Sea bottlenose dolphins can be involved in this type of work. These are very large dolphins, the length of which reaches 3.5 meters, and the weight is about 300 kilograms.
Among other things, these dolphins are much more trainable and can perform various tasks.
