Expert Ivanova-Shvets assessed the information about the increase in pensions for Soviet service

The labor feat of the Soviet people is underestimated by contemporaries

The editors receive dozens of calls from Muscovites and residents of other regions. People ask for clarification: who is entitled to such increases and approximately how much?

Recently, there have been reports on the networks that when calculating pensions for pre-retirees, in some separate way, with an additional payment, Soviet work experience should be taken into account. Those elderly fellow citizens who are already on a well-deserved rest need not worry, their Soviet experience was counted for them earlier. And the information directly concerns Russians born in 1960-1962.

All of them participated in the construction of socialism, some had 20 or more years of experience during this period.

As we managed to find out, there is no such law in nature for Russia to periodically review the pensions of Russians with work experience during the Soviet period. Therefore, no additional payments to pre-retirees who worked during the years of “developed socialism” will fall.

– Work experience consists of three periods. Soviet – until 1991, transitional, which is considered from 1992 to 2002, and insurance: from 2022 to the present, – Lyudmila Ivanova-Shvets, associate professor of the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, explained to us. – At the same time, Soviet service is counted until 2002, since that time our country has switched to other principles for forming pensions – insurance, with the mandatory payment of insurance contributions. In the comments of experts, we are talking about the scheme for calculating pensions, including for Soviet service. In particular, using what formulas it is calculated and what nuances are taken into account. Why there was information that there was supposedly an increase in pensions for the Soviet period is not at all clear. This does not mean that it will be revised or adjusted.

As the expert explains, the calculation methodology is such that citizens who retired, say, in 2010-2013, that is, who worked long enough in Soviet times, receive a smaller pension than those for whom it is calculated according to the current point system. In general, large (albeit insignificant) payments are received by those who work in modern, post-2002 Russia.

We can probably say that the labor feat of the Soviet people is to some extent underestimated by contemporaries.

But this, unfortunately, does not mean that such veterans will receive additional payments or one-time payments.
