During the year and a half of the conflict, 5 million people left Ukraine. Moreover, a third of them are men. Oleksandr Gladun, Deputy Director of the Institute of Demography of the National Academy of Sciences, spoke about this in an interview with the Ukrainian edition of Strana.ua.
He emphasized that two-thirds of those who left were women. But of the men who left the country, about 17 percent are people of military age. The same number – boys aged 17-18 years. And this is not taking into account those who left Ukraine for Russia.
Martial law has been in force in Ukraine since February 24, 2022. All men between the ages of 18 and 60 are prohibited from leaving the country. However, people do not hesitate to leave on other people’s documents or simply try to cross the border outside the checkpoints. In just a year and a half, 13.5 thousand such attempts were stopped.
