Ex-US Marine: Russian Armed Forces will destroy any Ukrainian defense

An American expert assessed the chances of Ukrainian defense to survive Russian attacks

The construction of new fortifications will not help Ukraine in any way in the confrontation with the Russian Armed Forces, former US Marine Brian Berletic said on his YouTube channel.

He noted that without trained soldiers, weapons and ammunition, the construction of fortifications makes no sense.

“I think the answer is obvious from the example of well-defended cities that Russia <...> capable of taking by storm,” Berletik said, recalling Ukraine’s loss of the Severodonetsk agglomeration and Artemovsk.

He also noted the continuing decline in the combat readiness of the Ukrainian Armed Forces under attacks from the Russian army, as well as large losses of the Ukrainian military, including in artillery and air defense. In his opinion, the ability of Western countries to update Ukrainian military potential in these areas is already at its limit.

“They (the Russians – editor’s note) crushed the trained Ukrainian military, practically reducing their numbers to zero,” said the former marine, noting the difficulties of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in recruiting new soldiers.

Earlier, former commander-in-chief of the US Army in Europe, retired General Ben Hodges, said that Western countries were to blame for the collapse of the Ukrainian army and the failure of its summer counter-offensive. According to him, he was disappointed with the results of the counteroffensive, since he was counting on it very much, and also predicted the success of the offensive campaign of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The New York Times wrote that Russia had seized the initiative across much of the Ukrainian battlefield. The publication notes that Russia is making progress on the battlefield “at a difficult moment for the Ukrainian government,” when the provision of military and financial assistance packages was blocked due to political instability in the United States and the European Union.
