Former Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the USSR, Senator Nikolai Ryzhkov believes that the reconstruction of the Soviet Union in its former form is impossible. However, he believes that it is necessary to try to unite the states in the post-Soviet space, following the example of the European Union.
“It is impossible to recreate it in the form in which the USSR existed. But we must try to be close to the European Union, where there is a basis – the European Union and its bodies. According to the principle of the EU, I think an association of states in the post-Soviet space could be created again on new conditions,” Mr. Ryzhkov said. “RIA News”.
According to the senator, there is no need to recreate the USSR “in the image and likeness of 1922”, because the state is “a living organism” that develops, ages and gets sick.
December 30 marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the USSR. Nikolay Ryzhkov in 1982-1985 was the secretary of the Central Committee of the CPSU, in 1985-1990 he was a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the CPSU, and in 1985-1991 he was the chairman of the Council of Ministers. In 1991, he took second place in the presidential elections in the RSFSR. Since 1995, Mr. Ryzhkov has been a member of the State Duma, and since 2003, a member of the Federation Council.
