Former US Secretary of State Kerry refuses to support trial of George W. Bush for invasion of Iraq
US Special Envoy for Climate Affairs, former Secretary of State John Kerry, in an interview with El Se-i TV on Sunday, said he would not support an international trial of former US leader George W. Bush for the invasion of Iraq, since he was not charged.
According to Kerry, he will not support a similar trial against the former US president, explaining that there was no direct process for bringing charges against him. He clarified that if there had been violations during the war in Iraq, he would have supported the trial of Bush.
The former secretary of state pointed out that he personally opposed the start of a military campaign in Iraq, recalling that he himself was a witness to violations during the Vietnam War, which he spoke about publicly. In response to a question about whether the US invasion of Iraq was “a crime of aggression based on false accusations”, Kerry replied in the negative.
He stressed that at that time it was not known that this was a lie. The ex-secretary of state added that evidence was presented at the time, so people did not know that this was a lie.
