Ex-governor of the Vologda region Kuvshinnikov will become a senator from the region

Acting Governor of the Vologda Region Georgy Filimonov said that the ex-head of the region Oleg Kuvshinnikov will represent the region in the Federation Council. On October 31, Mr. Kuvshinnikov went to resignation of his own free will, at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, he expressed his desire to “continue working for the benefit of the region.”

“On instructions from the president, I am nominating Oleg Aleksandrovich Kuvshinnikov for consideration as a member of the Federation Council from the executive branch of the Vologda region,” Mr. Filimonov said during ceremonies of your presentation. According to him, Mr. Kuvshinnikov will be delegated to the Federation Council “in the very near future.”

Oleg Kuvshinnikov has headed the Vologda region for the past 12 years. On October 31, he was replaced as head of the region by Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Moscow Region Georgy Filimonov; now he governs the region in the status of acting governor; he will go through elections in September 2024.
