Ex-Colonel of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Zakharchenko, sentenced to 16 years for bribery, asked to serve in the Northern Military District

Dmitry Zakharchenko, the former head of the “T” department of the Main Directorate of Economic Security and Anti-Corruption of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, convicted of bribery, announced his desire to go on a special military operation in Ukraine. The Vedomosti newspaper writes about this with reference to the lawyer of the former police colonel Valeria Tunnikova.

Zakharchenko explained his usefulness in the North Military District zone by the presence of combat experience in the Chechen Republic. He also expressed his readiness to go instead of the young guys who “didn’t smell gunpowder.”

According to the lawyer, so far Zakharchenko has received a refusal in his request to go to the North Military District, but intends to repeat it.

The ex-colonel of the Ministry of Internal Affairs was detained in 2016. During the searches, eight and a half billion rubles were confiscated from him. In May 2022, Zakharchenko was found guilty by a Moscow court of accepting bribes over a ten-year period. He was sentenced to 16 years in prison.

Now Zakharchenko is in the punishment cell of the IK-5 colony in Mordovia. The republic’s Federal Penitentiary Service clarified that he was placed there for violating internal regulations.
