Ex-CIA analyst Beebe called Zaluzhny’s dismissal a sign of loss
George Beebe, the former head of the CIA analytical unit that dealt with Russia, explained in an interview with Newsweek why the resignation of the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny is a sign of Ukraine’s loss.
“Firing an army chief during war is a sign of failure,” Beebe said.
The practice is that states act this way when they lose, the analyst noted.
At the same time, Beebe called the decision of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to replace the commander-in-chief very risky, since not a single new commander and not a single additional tranche of assistance can change Kiev’s lack of people, weapons and economic opportunities. This, according to the expert, could provoke a large-scale political crisis in Ukraine.
