Eurozone inflation hits record 9.1% in August

Inflation in the euro area in August amounted to 9.1% in annual terms. Such data today, August 31, published European Statistical Agency (Eurostat). Thus, inflation for the ninth time in a row was a record. Inflation in August slightly exceeded the expectations of analysts polled by Reuters, who had forecast 9%.
As before, the rise in prices was largely due to a sharp increase in energy prices. They grew in August by 38.3% in annual terms – slightly less than in July (39.6%). At the same time, the growth in prices for food, alcohol and tobacco accelerated to 10.6% against 9.8% in July. Prices for industrial goods (excluding energy) increased by 5%, for services – by 3.8%.
By countries, the maximum inflation was in Estonia (25.2%), the minimum – in France (6.5%). Prices in Germany rose by 8.8%, in Italy – by 9%, in Spain – by 10.3%.
