Eurozone economy returns to growth – Kommersant

Eurozone GDP in the second quarter grew by 0.3% compared to the previous quarter, follows from report Eurostat. In the first quarter of 2023, zero dynamics was recorded, and in the fourth quarter of 2022, a drop in GDP by 0.1%.
At the same time, among the largest economies in the eurozone, only Spain and France showed GDP growth in the second quarter – by 0.4% and 0.5%, respectively. Germany’s GDP remained at the same level as in March. And the Italian economy shrank by 0.3% compared to the first quarter of the year. Analysts expected GDP growth, albeit close to zero. The most notable quarterly growth was recorded in Ireland – by 3.3%.
Today, July 31, Eurostat published data by inflation. In the euro area, it slowed down to 5.3% in July. In June this figure was 5.5%. At the same time, the growth rates of prices for food products, tobacco and alcohol have noticeably decreased – from 11.6% in June to 10.8% in July. Electricity prices fell another 6.1% following a 5.6% fall in June.
