MEPs are demanding the resignation of European Commissioner Oliver Vargely, suspecting him of calling them idiots, Politico reports.
Oliver Varhelyi is a Hungarian official who holds the post of Commissioner for Neighborhood Policy in the European Parliament.
According to the newspaper, during the session of the European Parliament on the Western Balkans, Varheli said into a working microphone: “How many more idiots are there?”
Earlier Wednesday, Varhelyi issued a statement saying he sincerely regrets the “misunderstanding surrounding his remark.”
According to the commissioner, his words were taken out of context, but in fact they were part of a separate conversation with the person sitting next to him during the debate.
