The US Trade and Technology Summit, to be held at the University of Maryland next week, will not pay enough attention to the issues that concern European leaders. Therefore, the European Commissioner for the Internal Market, Thierry Breton, refused to visit the United States.
Brussels has recently made no secret of its dissatisfaction with the inflation reduction law adopted by Washington. However, only 45 minutes were devoted to this issue at the summit during lunch. This was announced by Breton’s assistant, explaining the reason for refusing to participate in the meeting.
Therefore, the European Commissioner will visit the United States only at the beginning of 2023. He will come to discuss technology, space and cyberspace.
European dissatisfaction was caused by a law providing for the expansion of tax subsidies for the purchase of electric vehicles assembled in North America. Brussels called the act discriminatory against similar products from other countries, and did not rule out retaliatory measures.
