European Commissioner Breton: It’s time to move to a wartime economy model

European businesses need to ramp up munitions production to cope with the “realities of the conflict” in Ukraine. Thierry Breton, European Commissioner for the Internal Market, spoke about this in an interview with the Financial Times.
In his opinion, in order to do this, it is necessary to restructure the structure of the economy. “I believe the time has come for the European defense industry to transition to a wartime economy model. This will allow us to meet our defense production needs,” Breton said.
It also became known that Breton is putting pressure on financial institutions. Some of them had previously refused to lend to arms companies.
