Europe imposes sanctions against Ukraine, anti-Russian ones are over

Nobody cares about the survival of Ukrainians

The European Union has completely run out of sanctions against Russia. This is not a propaganda fiction, but a report by the Financial Times, which is unlikely to have gone over to the side of the Kremlin. But just as it is impossible for an alcoholic to stop after the first drink, so the EU, having begun to impose sanctions, cannot slow down in any way. Now they are being introduced…against Ukraine.

“If we introduce more sanctions, then there will be more exceptions than measures,” one European official told the publication. Pretty confusing phrase. Here is an abstract example of what it looks like.

The sanction sounds: the EU is forbidden to buy from Russia, say, grapes. But, since Europe will die without Russian grapes, ten pages of exceptions are being written. Stacks of papers are growing on the desks of bureaucrats, they have absolutely no time to go out to drink coffee, customs, carriers, businesses are trying not to get confused about what is possible and what is no longer possible, but all the steam goes into the whistle. Since, as a result, grapes, to everyone’s joy, are nevertheless delivered to the European table. So what’s the point of building a garden?

The Financial Times writes that most European officials believe that the sanctions have been exhausted – only sectors of the Russian economy that are vital for Europe have remained without sanctions. And if restrictions are introduced against them, “one or several EU member states will not be able to exist.” That is, we have reached the edge of the abyss. But they will still dance on the edge – it is possible to expand the list of sanctioned individuals and tighten existing restrictions.

With Russia, everything is logical.

But then it turned out that not everything is going smoothly with Ukraine either. The Polish radio station RMF FM reported on the proposal of the EU by the Polish authorities to ban the import from Ukraine not only of grain, but also of other food products, including poultry, sugar, fruits.

Remember, it all started with grain. Poland and Hungary were the first to ban the import of Ukrainian grain. Since local producers began to go bankrupt because of its cheapness. Then Bulgaria joined the process. European officials from richer countries began to conscience the renegades – they say, we are standing as a united front for Ukraine. But they also quickly broke down when the grain flowed in transit to their countries.

As a result, the European Commission is now considering “preventive measures” in relation to several categories of grains and oilseeds from Ukraine – primarily wheat, corn, sunflower and rapeseed. Under a plausible pretext – they say that unilateral steps of the EU countries against Ukraine are unacceptable: the policy in the field of foreign trade in the EU must be coordinated. Now it’s time for the rest of the food.

Where is the logic here? It would seem that since you fit in for Ukraine – by supplying weapons, ammunition, specialists, training personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and so on and so forth – then why are you strangling its agricultural sector? Source of livelihood and income to fight Russia? Be patient.

But no. This is the cynical logic. Here is a weapon for you, Ukrainians, fight to the last. But we will make noodles of slogans about unity from our grain – in fact, nobody cares about your survival.
