EU urges Serbian authorities to allow gay pride parade

The European Union called on the Serbian authorities to coordinate the holding of the EuroPride gay pride parade. Earlier, Serbian President Vucic announced its cancellation due to the escalation in the unrecognized Kosovo.
Brussels said it expected close EU partners to be committed to “protecting human rights”, including the rights of sexual minorities to assemble and express themselves.
Against this background, last Sunday, the second march of many thousands took place in Belgrade in defense of traditional values and against the pan-European gay festival.
Earlier, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said that the country’s authorities were canceling the all-European gay pride parade scheduled for mid-September in Belgrade due to the crisis in Kosovo and Metohija. In response, the organizers of EuroPride said that the events within the framework of the LGBT festival would still take place, but without the parade.
