The European Union (EU) condemns Russia’s decision to terminate the grain deal, the EU Delegation to Russia said. According to the EU, “Russia single-handedly blocks one of the most important export routes from Ukraine.” Europe believes that Moscow “bears full responsibility for interruptions in the supply of grain around the world and the global rise in food prices.”

According to the EU, the grain deal helped ensure the safe export of almost 33 million tons of grain and food to 45 countries. “The EU calls on Russia to reconsider its decision and immediately resume the implementation of the Black Sea Grain Initiative,” the EU Delegation said in a statement published in Telegram.

The grain deal was concluded between Russia, Ukraine, Turkey and the UN in the summer of 2022. It envisaged the export of Ukrainian grain across the Black Sea and the removal of obstacles to the supply of Russian fertilizers and food. The grain deal ended today, July 18, due to unfulfilled demands of the Russian side. On this background rose wheat prices. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky suggested to continue the implementation of the grain deal without the participation of the Russian Federation.
