Today, the European statistical agency Eurostat published data on the unemployment rate in the EU and euro area countries. In the EU, the unemployment rate has remained unchanged since May at 5.9%. This is the lowest level in the history of the EU. A year earlier, this level was 6.1%.
In the Eurozone, the unemployment rate was 6.4% in June, unchanged from May. This is also the lowest level in the history of the euro area countries. A year earlier, unemployment in the euro area was 6.7%.
The highest unemployment rate in June was recorded in Spain (11.7%) and Greece (11.1%). The lowest is in Malta (2.6%), in Poland and the Czech Republic (2.7%). The unemployment rate in the EU has been steadily declining since the end of 2020, when anti-COVID restrictions began to gradually loosen.
