EU may weaken support for Ukraine due to disputes over the association’s budget

The disagreements of the EU countries over an increase of 86 billion euros in the community budget due to the growing costs of Brussels and the state budget deficit pose a threat to the financial support of Kyiv. This is reported by the Financial Times.
According to the source, Brussels’ requests for additional funds totaling 86 billion euros to reduce the burden on the EU budget while providing four years of support to Ukraine provoked disagreements between member countries. The controversy resulted in calls to reduce costs and extend the time frame for approving funds.
It is noted that the discussion will be the main test of the determination of the Western countries regarding Kyiv, since Europe and the United States are ambivalent about the results of the Armed Forces of Ukraine during an attempted summer counteroffensive. Brussels has proposed that Ukraine’s latest funding package be four years, in part to protect Kyiv from political instability.
It is known that today EU ministers are planning to resume consultations on this issue after a summer break.
