EU increases military support fund for Ukraine by 3.5 billion euros

The Council of the European Union approved an increase in the European Peace Fund (EPF) by 3.5 billion euros. About it says in the EU message.
“Today’s decision will provide us with the funding to continue to provide concrete military support to the armed forces of our partners,” explained EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell.
He noted that during its existence, since 2021, the fund has proved its worth and completely changed the approach to supporting partners in the field of defense.
Taking into account the increase, the financial ceiling of the fund will be 12 billion euros. “This decision sends a clear political signal of the EU’s continued commitment to military support for Ukraine and other partners,” the EU statement stressed.
In June Borrell toldthat the EU countries have sent shells to Ukraine worth 900 million euros since April. Funding for supplies is provided by the EMF. On June 20, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced that the EU will provide Ukraine with 50 billion euros for the reconstruction of the country for 2024-2027.
Additional military assistance to Ukraine was previously announced in the United States. In June it was announced on a $2.1 billion aid package for the Armed Forces of Ukraine as part of the program for the purchase of military products from defense enterprises, designed to provide long-term assistance to Kyiv. At the end of May, the Pentagon estimated the amount of military assistance allocated to Ukraine at $37.6 billion. On June 21, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken declared on the allocation of another $1.3 billion, which will complement the support package for Ukraine, which includes more than $20 billion in economic assistance.
